A Morgantown woman has been arrested in a fatal overdose death.
The Russellville Police Department arrested 25-year-old Madison Westmoreland earlier this week on an indictment warrant charging her with second-degree manslaughter in an overdose death in June 2024 at the Green River Lodge at 461 South Tyler Street in Morgantown.
The name of the overdose victim, a male, has not been released.
Westmoreland was also indicted in Butler County for trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, her second such offense) and first-degree persistent felony offender. She’s being held in the Butler County Detention Center.
A second person, 43-year-old Eric Hypes, of Morgantown, is being sought by police for his role in the overdose death as police told WNKY.com that Hypes and Westmoreland sold the victim fentanyl and heroin even though the victim thought he was purchasing cocaine.
Hypes has an indictment warrant charging him with the same counts, including second-degree manslaughter, as Westmoreland.
Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact the Morgantown PD at 270-526-2040.
Both Westmoreland and Hypes have criminal histories, as Westmoreland was convicted in May 2023 in Butler County for fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections. She was granted shock probation in the case.
Hypes was convicted in 2016 for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) in Jefferson County, and in 2017 he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
He has been arrested numerous since 2011 on a multitude of charges, according to online records, including DUI, drug possession, drug trafficking, and tampering with physical evidence among other counts.
