Two people have been accused of stealing funds from a Perry County fire department.
Kentucky State Police was notified in early January by the Kentucky Fire Commission regarding “complaints of misconduct” related to former Jakes Branch Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jamie C. Farris and his girlfriend, Sharla Stacy, who formerly served as treasurer of the department.
The state police investigation showed that Farris, 36, and Stacy, 36, used “thousands of dollars of fire department funds for personal use” between October 2021 and August 2024, according to state police.
The investigation’s findings were presented to a Perry County Grand Jury which indicted the couple for theft by unlawful taking and abuse of public trust.
The two suspects were arrested on Monday and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail on $25,000 cash bonds.
