A Grayson County teenager struck by a vehicle on Brandenburg Road accidentally walked between two stationary vehicles and into the path of an oncoming SUV, according to the Leitchfield Police Department.
According to police, the female victim, a senior at Grayson County High School, walked between stopped vehicles on northbound Brandenburg Road — Traffic was at a halt because motorists were waiting on a northbound vehicle to turn left onto Lilac Road.
As the petite victim walked between the two stopped vehicles, she stepped into the path of a southbound vehicle, resulting in her being struck by a compact SUV, according to LPD. The impact threw the victim into the front of a stationary Ford F-150 truck.
She was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center before being taken by EMS to Norton Children’s Hospital.
The Leitchfield Police Department, acknowledging the large number of pedestrians who walk Leitchfield’s streets, issued the following statement to K105 on the accident:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the pedestrian, as we believe this is just a tragic accident. This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of how important it is for pedestrians to be vigilant when crossing roadways.”
In addition to Leitchfield police and EMS, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the scene.
