A Clarkson man arrested for his third DUI and resisting arrest on Tuesday, was arrested again on Wednesday for driving on a DUI suspended license.

On Tuesday night at 7:35, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jason Luedke and Deputy Caleb Fisher responded to a non-injury single-vehicle accident in the 1700 block of Millerstown Road at Braton Road.

The 911 caller told Central Dispatch that the driver, 68-year-old Michael W. Minton, appeared intoxicated and “begged (the caller) not to call law enforcement,” according to the arrest citation.

Upon arriving at the scene, Luedke detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Minton and the suspect displayed slurred speech. Minton was unable to provide a driver’s license because “he is currently suspended for two previous DUI convictions,” the citation states.

He additionally refused to undergo a field sobriety test. The suspect was then told, according to the citation, that he was under arrest and asked to present his hands to be handcuffed. Minton again refused and attempted to light a cigarette.

Luedke removed the cigarette from Minton’s mouth and grabbed his wrist, as the suspect began to actively resist before being “forced into the prone position,” the citation states. After being handcuffed, he continued to resist while being placed into the back of Luedke’s cruiser.

Police then conducted a search of Minton’s Nissan Altima where there were “several open alcohol beverage containers …,” according to the citation.

Minton then told police he was diabetic and that his wrist was numb. Luedke requested EMS, and as he was moving the handcuffs to the front, Minton again resisted.

When EMS arrived, medical personnel checked Minton’s “blood sugar and vitals,” all of which were normal, the citation states.

Deputies then transported Minton to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for medical clearance due to his level of intoxication.

As Minton previously told Luedke he would not submit to “any tests,” the sergeant obtained a warrant for a blood draw. The suspect’s blood alcohol content was measured at nearly four times the legal limit of .08 approximately two hours after Luedke responded to the scene.

He was then transported to the Grayson County Detention Center where deputy jailers “declined” to process Minton into the facility due to “the level he showed on a preliminary breath test,” the citation says. Minton was then taken back to the ER for another medical clearance before being incarcerated.

Minton was charged with his third DUI, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle without an interlocking device, driving on a DUI suspended license, obstructing emergency responder violations, careless driving, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

He was bailed out of jail sometime on Wednesday. On Wednesday afternoon, Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith arrested Minton for driving on a DUI suspended license.
