In a shocking turn of events, a father has been accused of intentionally setting fire to a home with his two sons inside, killing both boys.

K105 reported Wednesday evening that two teenagers, ages 13 and 15 (originally, the older son was reported by The State Journal to be 14-years-old, but WKYT now reports the older son was 15), died in residential fire in the 5800 block of Flat Creek Road, about 10 miles northwest of Frankfort.

The deadly blaze happened Wednesday morning at approximately 12:50. A dog also perished in the blaze.

On Friday, the teens’ father, 44-year-old Dustin L. Fields, was arrested and charged with first-degree arson. WKYT reports that, according to court documents, a K-9 officer detected an accelerant on Fields’ shoes and at various locations throughout the home, as well as where the boys’ bodies were found.

Additionally, court documents note that Fields’ statements to police were “inconsistent and conflicted with witness statements,” according to LEX18.com.

Fields is being held in the Franklin Co. Regional Jail on a $2 million cash bond.
