A second Adair County middle school student has been died from injuries sustained in the same DUI crash.

Adair County Public Schools said in a social media post on Monday that sixth grade student David King Jr., died on May 1 from injuries sustained in a crash on April 20 that also killed 14-year-old eighth-grader Skyler Huckaby, both students at Adair County Middle School.

King had been in a coma since the accident.

The wreck occurred near the Adair-Russell County line.

Police arrested David King Jr’s father, 31-year-old David King, of Columbia, and charged him with vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol, this third DUI (aggravating circumstances), first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

King admitted to police that he consumed about 30 beers prior to the crash.

He is lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.

As K105 reported in December 2024, a second-grade student in Adair County, Rose Morgan, was killed in a in a DUI crash.
