A man wanted in Warren County for nearly two decades on child rape and sodomy charges has been arrested in Florida.
Donnie A. Phelps, 49, of Bowling Green, was arrested on Tuesday in Largo, Florida, Kentucky State Police Post 3 Public Affairs Officer Katan Parker told WNKY.com. Phelps, according to iontb.com, was using two aliases: Gregory Phelps and Jacob Allen Bush.
Phelps had evaded law enforcement for 18 years after being indicted for bail jumping in 2007, which resulted from Phelps fleeing Kentucky State Police in a vehicle with a three-year-old child inside, iontb.com reports.
He was also wanted on an Warren Co. indictment warrant charging him with first-degree rape (victim under the age of 12), first-degree sodomy (victim under the age of 12) and bail jumping. Phelps was indicted on those charges in 2010, but the offenses took place in 2007, according to iontb.com.
Phelps was arrested after one of his friends discovered his real identity and alerted the Largo Police Department. The U.S. Marshals Service and Pinellas Co. Sheriff’s Office assisted in apprehending the suspect.
