
An elderly eastern Kentucky woman has perished in a house fire that began with a brush fire.
Darlene Stevens, 78, of Catlettsburg, died in an early-morning fire on Wednesday in the 2100 block of Barbeque Road, according to the Boyd County Coroner’s Office. Several animals also died in the blaze.
The coroner’s office said that “according to initial reports, 911 calls were received around 2:00 a.m. regarding a brush fire in the area. Upon arrival, the Catlettsburg Fire Department discovered a residence fully engulfed in flames at 2109 Barbeque Road.”
Multiple fire departments were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze.
Kentucky State Police and the Boyd County Coroner’s Office are leading the investigation.
