An “avid gun enthusiast” was killed when his residence caught fire, resulting in explosions heard miles away.

The Corbin Police Department said the fire, on 5th Street Road, occurred early Thursday morning.

“Preliminary information suggests the tenant is an avid gun enthusiast. This is the reason for the loud explosions that could be heard as far as Moore Hill in Knox County,” according to Corbin police.

The Moore Hill subdivision is approximately five miles from the site of the fire.

Fire spread from the home to a tractor and several vehicles in the home’s garage area.

The name of the man who perished in the blaze has not been released.
