A Grayson County High School student has been named a 2025 Yale Young Global Scholar (YYGS).

Daniel Clay Ratley, a rising senior at GCHS, was selected on the merits of his dedication to academic excellence and years of community service-oriented projects.

YYGS is a two-week summer program at Yale University, an Ivy League school in New Haven, Connecticut, for exceptional high school students selected from around the world to explore and discuss pressing topics in STEM, social sciences, humanities, and cross-disciplinary studies.

Daniel is believed to be the first student from Grayson County High School to attend YYGS since its inception. He will reside on Yale’s campus this summer while attending the Politics, Law & Economics session.

He said he’s looking forward to networking with peers from across the country and around the globe while learning from world-class professors at this top university.

“I am incredibly honored to represent Grayson County and Kentucky at YYGS this summer,” Daniel said. “I look forward to engaging with peers and professors at Yale, and I’m excited to bring back fresh perspectives to benefit Grayson County High School and our entire community.”

Yale recently announced that 2025 Scholars were selected from a record-breaking 13,000 high school sophomores and juniors who submitted applications. This prestigious academic program brings together high-achieving students from over 150 countries and all 50 states.
