A Hardin County business owner has been sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay over $6 million in restitution for committing healthcare fraud.

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky Michael A. Bennett said 54-year-old Pedro Reyes, formerly of Elizabethtown, was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison “for engaging in a conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud in connection with durable medical equipment businesses.”

He was also ordered to pay $6,004,916 in restitution.

Reyes formerly owned Medical Plus Support LLC in Radcliff.

According to court documents, Reyes was convicted of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud.

“Reyes, through multiple Kentucky companies, executed a scheme in which he fraudulently billed Medicare for durable medical equipment (orthopedic equipment, to including back, knee, and shoulder braces) that was medically unnecessary, unwanted by patients, and not prescribed by the patients’ medical providers,” according to prosecutors.

There is no parole in the federal system.
