A new principal has been selected for Grayson County High School.
Shane Decker has been named the next GCHS principal, replacing Lacy Cox who resigned to take a position with Breckinridge County Schools.
Decker officially takes over on July 1. He served as assistant principal at GCHS for the last four years.
A GCHS graduate, Decker’s education career spans 15 years, with 14 of those in Grayson County Schools. He taught social studies at Grayson County Middle School before transitioning to the high school.
“As an alum, Decker has a deep-rooted connection to the community. He has also had a distinguished coaching career in both football and volleyball. His GCMS volleyball teams earned seven league titles during his tenure there,” the school district said in a press release.
Decker is excited for the opportunity as he looks to continue building on the progress made by previous administrations.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the students, faculty and staff to build on the growth and progress our school has achieved in recent years and ensuring that GCHS remains a piece of our community that all stakeholders can be proud of,” he said.
In making the announcement, Superintendent Doug Robinson noted Decker’s vision for the school and his leadership in a variety of areas.
“I’m confident Shane will bring those qualities to this new role to continue the momentum of GCHS and build on it.”
Decker holds a Bachelor’s in Middle Grades Education from Western Kentucky University, a Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership, and an Educational Specialist’s Degree in Educational Leadership, both from the University of the Cumberlands.
He and wife Christina are the proud parents of Kaylor, Averi and Karver.
