Kentucky State Police has released information on a crash that killed a paramedic from Meade County after his stopped vehicle accelerated and struck two vehicles and a utility pole.

State police said troopers responded to the accident on May 23 at approximately noon in the 500 block of Broadway Street in Cave City.

The investigation showed that a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, being driven by 41-year-old paramedic Wesley England, of Hardyville, was stopped at a traffic light at Broadway Street and Hwy 31-W. In front of England’s vehicle was a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, being driven by 69-year-old Frances Laird, of Cave City, which was also stopped at the light.

England’s vehicle then accelerated and collided with the Impala’s rear end, pushing it through the intersection. England continued to accelerate and subsequently collided with an unoccupied Dodge Caravan and a light pole, state police said.

England was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Laird was transported to The Medical Center at Caverna.

As K105 reported Tuesday morning, according to Supporting Heroes, England suffered a heart attack while at the stop light following a shift at Nelson Co. EMS where he had a physical altercation with a patient at a detention center.
