A Butler County man who absconded from parole after recent drug trafficking and theft convictions has been arrested with a large amount of methamphetamine and a stolen computer after burglarizing a Bowling Green apartment complex.
The Bowling Green Police Department arrested 46-year-old Dewayne Adkins, of Morgantown, on Saturday night and charged him with second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking (more than $1,000, less than $10,000), trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and fleeing or evading police (on foot).
The arrest occurred after a resident of the Muse Bowling Green off-campus student apartment complex observed a man on her security camera at approximately 9:45 p.m., according to WNKY.com. The resident told authorities that the man left the area with a laptop and alcohol worth approximately $2,7000.
Bowling Green police made contact with Adkins at about 10:00 p.m. at Western Hills Motel, at the intersection of Morgantown Road and Russellville Road, on the edge of the WKU campus and only a couple of hundred yards from the Muse Bowling Green complex.
As police made contact with Adkins, he fled on foot and dropped the backpack, WNKY.com reports. He was captured on Holley Drive, about a block away from where he was spotted by law enforcement.
During a search of Adkins, police found over six grams of methamphetamine. The stolen laptop was also recovered.
He’s being held in the Warren County Regional Jail on a $6,000 cash bond.
Adkins, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, was convicted in December 2023 in Butler County for receiving stolen property (more than $1,000, less than $10,000). He was again convicted in January 2024 in Warren County for trafficking in methamphetamine and fleeing or evading police.
