The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced Monday more than $70 million of aid has gone to Kentucky families who suffered losses in the state’s three major disaster areas.

As of Monday, FEMA has approved more than $46.8 million in housing and other types of assistance to over 7,100 Kentucky households, stemming from the February flooding and severe weather. Although the application period for February storms closed on May 25, FEMA is still able to help if you have questions or need to provide documents.

FEMA has also awarded more than $22 million for the severe weather and historic flooding that occurred in April to more than 2,800Kentucky households, with more applications being processed daily. The deadline to apply for benefits from the April disaster has been extended until July 25, so Kentuckians still have more time to put together their applications.

In addition, FEMA has currently disbursed over $1.3 million in benefits for individuals in six counties who suffered losses in the May deadly tornado outbreak. That application deadline is July 23. There is no word on whether state officials will try to have that deadline extended, like was done for the April disaster.

Survivors in the designated counties who have experienced losses from the April and May disasters can apply for assistance in several different ways:

  • Apply online at gov.
  • Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 40601”).
  • Use the FEMA mobile app.
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. It is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.

These numbers only apply to individual assistance and do not include public assistance okayed for state and local governments.
