A man arrested in December for riding a mule while intoxicated and fleeing police on the animal has been jailed after releasing a racoon into a business he was banned from entering.

The Murray Police Department responded Friday night at approximately 9:15 after someone “released a raccoon into an open business …” The raccoon, police said, bit someone at the business.

Police did not identify the business.

The person who released the raccoon, 40-year-old Jonathan Mason, of Murray, left the scene prior to police arriving but he was soon located, as officers conducted a traffic stop on the suspect.

During the stop, Mason “refused to roll down his windows or exit the vehicle,” according to police, resulting in officers removing Mason from the vehicle.

He was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and third-degree criminal trespassing and lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center.

As K105 reported in December, Mason was arrested twice in three days after riding a mule while intoxicated and fleeing police on the animal.

The first incident occurred the night of December 7 at approximately 9:10 when Murray police were dispatched to an alcohol establishment after Mason was disorderly inside the business. He ultimately left the establishment on a mule and refused to stop for police, according to a report by WPSD.com.

Mason, who witnesses say physically abused the mule, was eventually arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, alcohol intoxication in a public place, third-degree criminal trespassing, and second-degree cruelty to animals.

Then, on the afternoon of December 9, Mason arrived where the mule was stabled, took the mule and began riding it on a roadway. When police arrived, officers found Mason riding the mule as he again refused to stop.

He was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police and second-degree cruelty to animals and lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center.
