Multiple police agencies seized over 2,200 pills and 120 firearms during the culmination of a lengthy undercover investigation.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said deputies, Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant on Thursday, June 5, at a home on Typo Road in Bonnyman, five miles north of Hazard in Perry County, following “an undercover drug investigation (that) was conducted by Laurel sheriff’s narcotics detectives who teamed up with our law enforcement partners on this case.”
The case, police said, originated in Laurel County in 2024.
During a search of the property, investigators located approximately 2,247 prescription pills, 120 firearms, methamphetamine, and a large amount of U.S. currency, Root said in a social media post.
Police arrested 68-year-old Chester G. Couch, of Bonnyman, and charged him with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (opiates), trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
He was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Perry County.
The investigation is ongoing.
