Vince H. Escue, age 78, of Duff, KY, passed away Tuesday, (June 10, 2025) at his home surrounded by those he loved the most.
He was born on July 17, 1946 the son of the late James and Annie Pruitt Escue of Jackson, TN.
Vince was a man of great integrity, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a Veteran of the US Army, having served his country in Korea. He was a very active member of Clearview Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.
His family moved from Tennessee to Duff in 1962, where he lived until his death. He loved his community and his community loved him. He loved the old white Duff church and was instrumental in preserving the church and cemetery. He was a very successful farmer with a passion for the land.
Though he came from meager beginnings, he went on to become a successful businessman, starting Escue Wood Preserving in 1980, a business he ran with his son for many years. Those who worked for him became some of his closest friends.
He was a very generous man who never wanted to see anyone “go without”. He spent his life helping others, often complete strangers, not for recognition – but from the goodness of his heart.
He loved his family with his whole heart; his wife, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and the Hodges. His home was a gathering place for many family celebrations. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Hodges Escue; his son, Kevin Escue (Becky); his daughter Cindy Escue; grandchildren, Austin Escue (Lucy), Emma Nash (Jarrod), Keragan Collard; Grant Escue; Reed Meredith (Maddie), Daniel Ashley (Skylar), Carly Ashley; great-grandchildren, Peyton Nash, Reagan Nash, & Noah Meredith. Surviving siblings include Ann Schmitzerle, Alvin Escue (Phyllis), Carolyn Fugate, Clifton Escue, and Qulin Escue (Charlotte). Sisters-in-law, Bernice Young, Judy Escue, Wilda Escue, Jo Escue, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Loyd, Frank, Harvel and Nolan Escue.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, (June 17, 2025) at the Clearview Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bro. Odell Beauchamp will be officiating. Burial will be in the Duff Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and will move to the Clearview Baptist Church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
