One soldier died and another was injured in a helicopter training accident at Ft. Campbell.
The incident happened on Wednesday evening at approximately 7:00 in the Ft. Campbell training area, according to a release by the 101st Airborne Division.
“Emergency services responded, and one soldier was confirmed dead while the other was taken to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and was in stable condition,” the release states.
The names of the soldiers involved in the accident have not yet been released.
A statement from Ft. Campbell said the two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, part of the 101st Airborne Division, crashed around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29.
The helicopters crashed in a field near a residential area with no injuries on the ground, Brig. Gen. John Lubas, the 101st Airborne deputy commander, said. One helicopter had five soldiers aboard and the other contained four.
“This was a training progression, and specifically they were flying a multi-ship formation, two ships, under night vision goggles at night,” officials said at the time.
Authorities believe the accident occurred when “they were doing flying, not deliberate medical evacuation drills.”
