A widely used bridge connecting Grayson and Breckinridge counties has reopened but additional work remains to be completed on the span.
The bridge reopened to traffic last week, but “the ‘bumps’ on the bridge ends will be addressed as resurfacing work takes place through there on KY 259,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 4 spokesman Chris Jessie told K105.
“The contractor (also) still has to apply concrete sealer on the deck. That will likely do that on a good weather day within the next couple of weeks and will be completed under flaggers directing traffic,” Jessie said.
Despite multiple weather events since the beginning of construction, the contractor reopened the bridge within the parameters set by the contract.
“With regard to weather over the past couple of months,” Jessie said, “rains and flooding took away several workdays and the high water resulted in the contractor demobilizing for a few days with the threat of the bridge becoming covered (which thankfully didn’t happen, but the water got up to just a few inches below the bridge deck). Still, the contractor was able to get the road open on time.”
