A 22-year-old woman has been charged with shooting and killing her father.

The Prestonsburg Police Department said officers responded on Monday night to the report of a shooting in the 2300 block of North Lake Drive (Hwy 321) in Prestonsburg. The person who called 911, 22-year-old Summer Adkins, of Prestonsburg, told dispatch that she shot her father, 62-year-old Jimmy D. Hoover, of Prestonsburg.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Harvey deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. He was “sitting in a chair,” police said.

“There was a discussion or a disagreement prior to the shooting — immediately prior to the shooting — and she, by her own admission, did shoot and kill her father,” Prestonsburg Police Chief Ross Shurtleff told WYMT.com.

Adkins was arrested and charged with murder. She’s being held in the Floyd County Detention Center.

The body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
