Elderly couple killed when church van hits utility pole

An elderly couple has been killed in an accident involving a church van.

The crash happened Sunday morning at approximately 11:40 when a First Corinthian Baptist Church van traveling east on East Main Street crashed into a utility pole on Butler Drive in Frankfort, according to Kentucky State police.

One person, 76-year-old Carolyn Jackson, was ejected from the Ford van, according to WKYT.com. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another passenger, Jackson’s husband, 81-year-old James Jackson, was transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The Jacksons were from Franklin County.

The driver of the van, Terrones Mitchell, was also transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
