Kentucky State Police is investigating after a man began shooting at Boone County deputies.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon at approximately 1:30. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team investigation showed that deputies were dispatched to a residence on Saunders Lane in Richwood, approximately seven miles south of Florence, on the report of shots fired “from within the residence,” according to state police.
Upon deputies arriving at the scene, they encountered 47-year-old Mhammed Jibrini, of Richwood, who had barricaded himself inside the residence with a firearm.
Deputies attempted to negotiate a peaceful resolution, but were unsuccessful, police said, as Jibrini “began firing the gun in the direction of the officers.” Multiple deputies returned fire, striking the suspect.
Jibrini was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital in critical condition. No deputies were injured.
