An accident on a construction site at Lone Oak First Baptist Church has resulted in critical injuries to two members of a construction crew after a flash explosion took place in a maintenance barn on the site, according to McCracken County Sheriff Ryan Norman.
Two workers from A&K Construction were taken to the hospital and later moved to an out-of-state hospital.
McCracken County Sheriff’s Office reported late Monday afternoon that at approximately 12:49 p.m., deputies and other first responders, responded to reports of an explosion.
The church asked for prayers in a social media post for those involved in the incident. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by detectives with the assistance from the Paducah Police Department.
In an update from the church on Facebook, the church also posted: “We are also deeply grateful for the first responders from the Lone Oak Fire Department (and those departments assisting), McCracken County Emergency Management, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, the Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, the Paducah Police Department and all of the related agencies who jumped in very quickly to help.”
The church message said the accident happened far away from Vacation Bible School-related activities and will be proceeding with the second day of VBS on Tuesday as scheduled.
