A Kentucky teenager has died in a freakish fly-fishing accident.

Noah Tinch, 18, of Lexington, died one day before his 19th birthday while fly-fishing in Colorado on Thursday.

Tinch, who just completed his freshman year at the University of Kentucky, was in Colorado with his mother cleaning a property Tinch’s grandparents sold, according to a report by WKYT.com.

“My wife was a little ways away from him when she found him in the stream unresponsive,” Tinch’s father, Brett Tinch, told the Lexington television station. “(The coroner’s office in Colorado) believes that he had gotten a fly stuck in a rock and he had bent down to pick it up. He hit his head, lost consciousness and he drowned.”

Brett Tinch said his wife performed CPR for 45 minutes and used her satellite phone to call for help.

“She did everything she could to try to save him, and unfortunately, he was gone,” Brett Tinch said.

Noah Tinch, who graduated from Henry Clay High School, was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was studying Kinesiology at UK.
