The Grayson County Lady Cougar basketball team returned to the hardwood on Thursday afternoon with a pair of games at WKU’s Diddle Arena.
In the first game, they dominated Forest Park (IN) before dropping a matchup with Manual, one of the state’s traditional powers.
Forest Park (IN)
The Lady Cougars got the day started on the practice floor of the WKU Lady Toppers at Diddle Arena, and they got off to a lightning-quick start.
On their first possession, Breigh Jones found Lucy Tarrance on the inside for an easy bucket, which helped spark an 8-0 run to open the game.
The game would never be close as Tarrance and Jones would combine to outscore Forest Park on their own in the half as the Lady Cougars took a 16-4 advantage into the break.
The second half saw head coach Mike McClintic go deeper into the bench, and multiple young players had shining moments. Kenley Kiper had a basket and a steal, and London Jones added a steal as well.
Grayson County would go on to cruise to a 28-14 victory.
DuPont Manual
The second game of the day was a different challenge for the Lady Cougars as they moved to the main floor of Diddle Arena to face DuPont Manual.
The Lady Crimsons returned nearly their entire squad from last season, which saw them lose in the regional final to eventual state champion Sacred Heart.
Sadly for Grayson County, Manual lived up to the hype as they led 16-0 before Payton Bowman broke the seal with a floater
After the ball went through the net, the half was played even, but it was still an 18-6 deficit at the break.
That turned out to be a mark that was just too much to come back from as Grayson County went on to lose 34-17. The second half did bring some positives as Hannah Smith scored four points while adding four rebounds and a steal.
Grayson County is set to return to WKU on Friday afternoon as they will play Montgomery County and Spring Valley (IN) to close out the summer portion of the schedule.
