Man charged in alcohol-related ATV crash that killed his 7-year-old nephew

A man has been charged in the death of his seven-year-old nephew in an alcohol-related ATV crash.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Saturday night at approximately 10:00 on River Street in Vanceburg.

The state police investigation showed that 39-year-old Adam D. Thacker, of Vanceburg was driving an ATV near River Street when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the ATV to overturn and eject a juvenile passenger.

The juvenile was transported to Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville where he was later pronounced deceased.

Under questioning, Thacker told police he drank “five to six beers and Fireball Cinnamon Whisky over five hours,” according to the Herald-Leader. Additionally, according to the Herald-Leaders, “there were multiple ‘no ATV’ signs in the area of the crash.”

Thacker was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, DUI and second-degree criminal trespassing.
