An elderly man has died in a house fire.
The Garrett Fire Department in Floyd County responded on Monday to a residential fire on Barn Road, with a person possibly trapped in the home, according to WYMT.com. Upon arriving at the scene, the home was nearly fully engulfed in flames.
Fire Chief Grady Allen told WYMT.com that “due to the weather and the flames, attempts to get into the front of the home were unsuccessful early on, so the department sent out a call for mutual aid to get more hands and more water on the fire.”
After extinguishing the blaze, first responders discovered the body 76-year-old Marvin G. Howard in the living room, which is where officials believe the fire began.
The ongoing investigation is being led by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
