An elderly man is accused of setting his son’s home on fire.
The fire occurred at 10:30 the night of June 26 on Hwy 25 in Williamsburg. The three-story residence was fully engulfed in flames upon firefighters arriving at the scene and was a total loss, according to a report by WKYT.com.
During the investigation, the homeowner, David Perry, told Williamsburg police that he witnessed his father, 82-year-old Berry L. Perry, pouring liquid from a fuel container onto the residence, setting the liquid on fire and leaving the scene.
Berry Perry was located by law enforcement hours after the fire. He claimed innocence when confronted about starting the blaze and even offered to have his clothing tested for accelerants. The following day, police recovered a burned torch near where David Perry told police he saw his father start the fire.
Berry Perry was arrested on Monday and charged with first-degree arson and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
