A three-year-old has drowned in an above-ground swimming pool.
The drowning occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 11:30 in South Wolf Creek in Martin County, according to The Martin-Tug Valley Mountain Citizen.
The child, Wyatt Jarrell, who apparently wandered outside the home and into the pool without anyone noticing, was transported to Appalachian Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased 30 minutes after arriving.
“We ask the community to do what Martin County always does in tragic events like this; wrap our arms around the family and remember them in our thoughts and prayers,” Martin Co. Chief Deputy Chris Kidd told the newspaper. “Also remember the first responders: the ambulance drivers, the paramedics and the hospital workers—all the nurses and doctors who worked so diligently.”
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
