Larry Shepherd, age 77, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Monday, (July 7, 2025) at Indian Creek Health Center in Corydon, IN. He was born on August 2, 1947 in Surginsville, TN, the son of the late William Stacy and Lockie Jane Lewis Shepherd.

He was a carpenter who built houses, furniture and crafts. He also was a musician and luthier who built mandolins and other instruments; he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing especially camping in primitive sites and lived in a teepee on weekends.

He was a former member of the McDonald Road Bluegrass Band, the NRA, and was a member of
the Broadway Missionary Baptist Church.

He was born in Tennessee but moved to Venice Florida when he was 8 years old. He graduated high school in 1965. He was an Air Force veteran serving 4 years from 1966 to 1970 and then went to work for his dad as a carpenter. He and Jackie moved to Kentucky in 1985, bought the Pine Knob country store and ran it until 2000.

In 2022 the store was sold and they moved to Leitchfield.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie, two sons, Eddie and his wife, Tina and Kenny and wife, Missy, six grandchildren, Cody (Jenna), Raylee, Travis, Tasha, Tyra and Tyler, 10 great-grandchildren, Emrin, Maggie, Addy, Caroline, Jake, Noah, Joslyn, Ruby, Winston and Kartyr, one sister, Wilma Boone. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Willard, Denver and Chuck Shepherd.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, (July 12, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Landon Young will be officiating with cremation will follow.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
