A Leitchfield man has been arrested after he admitted he “smacked” his six-month-old baby in the head.
The Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence Sunday night at approximately 11:45 on the report of a domestic assault.
Upon arriving at the scene, a female holding a six-month-old baby was outside the residence, according to the arrest citation. She told police that a male, 49-year-old Jeremy M. Chaikowsky, had struck the “child in the face trying to make the child be quiet.”
The female, according to the citation, “had numerous bruises and marks on her.” She told police Chaikowsky had struck her numerous times earlier in the day while she was holding the baby. She additionally “retrieved multiple locks of hair that had been pulled from her head” during an earlier altercation with the suspect.
At one point, the victim told police, Chaikowsky laid “his weight across the child.”
Under questioning by police, Chaikowsky admitted to hitting the baby in the head in an attempt to get the child to quit crying, the citation states
Chaikowsky was charged with first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12) and fourth-degree assault and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Both the baby and the female victim were “escorted” by Leitchfield police to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for evaluation, according to the citation.
