A Marshall County High School school resource officer has been accused of sending “inappropriate messages to female students,” according to Kentucky State Police.

The investigation began on May 14 when KSP was requested by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an investigation into 47-year-old Deputy James Steven Oakley, of Benton.

Oakley, state police said, was accused of sending “inappropriate messages to juvenile female students at Marshall County High School.”

The investigation’s findings were presented to a Marshall County Grand Jury on Friday and resulted in Oakley being indicted for harassment.

Oakley has served as a school resource officer since November 2022. He was hired into the position after serving over 20 years with the Marshall Co. Sheriff’s Office.
