
This weekend offers endless activities for adults and children alike as the city of Leitchfield will put on a fireworks show on Friday night, and the annual Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship takes place on Saturday.
In addition to the fireworks show, Friday offers an FCBC Loud Stereo Contest at 4:00 p.m. in the Veteran’s Memorial Park parking lot; a Cruise In and Car Show on the Leitchfield Town Square begins at 5:00 p.m.; and The Fitt as a Fiddle 5K & Family Run starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Jack Thomas House.
Three bluegrass bands will perform on the third floor of the old Judicial Center beginning at 6:00 Friday night: Leitchfield-based McDonald Road, Bowling Green-based South Union Bluegrass Band and the Southside Collective Band, comprised of members from western Kentucky and Alabama.
The fireworks show begins at dusk on Friday (the fireworks will be set off behind Grayson Co. Middle School).
The Leitchfield Aquatic Center will host a Night Swim from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for only $5 (those with season passes enter for free), as the aquatic center offers a great view of the fireworks show.
Saturday
Saturday begins with a Pancake Breakfast from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Leitchfield Fire Department station on South Main Street.
The always entertaining Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship (TLNFC) kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on the Leitchfield Town Square. The event will be live streamed on the TLNFC YouTube channel starting at 8:45 a.m., click here to watch the live stream: TLNFC Live Stream
In addition to the fiddle competition on the east side of the square, there will be food vendor booths, craft booths, amusement rides and many other activities for children and adults.
There are six categories in the fiddling championship, as well as dancing, guitar, mandolin, and banjo competitions. All six fiddle categories are certified by the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest in Weiser, Idaho. Click here for more information on the fiddle contest.
Also on Saturday, the Grayson County Historical Society will provide free tours of the Jack Thomas House and the Buchanan Log Cabin from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
An Antique Car-Truck-Rat Rod-Tractor & Bike Show will take place off the Leitchfield Town Square on Saturday. Registration for the event is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with judging from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Awards will be handed out at 2:00 p.m.
Following the fiddle contest, the award-winning bluegrass band, The Grascals, featuring Leitchfield native Danny Roberts, will perform on the Leitchfield Town Square.
All events on Friday and Saturday are free.
