A motorcyclist fleeing police has been killed after a deputy inadvertently struck the suspect with his cruiser.

Kentucky State Police said the incident occurred on July 1 at approximately 7:45 p.m. when Gallatin County Deputy Matthew Daily conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle for a traffic violation on Ambrose Road, about 10 miles east of Warsaw.

During the stop, the motorcyclist, 37-year-old Justin L. Hunt, of Hebron (Boone Co.), “disregarded lawful orders from the sheriff’s deputy and began to flee from police,” according to state police.

During the pursuit, state police said Hunt lost control of his motorcycle in an “S” curve and “traveled off the roadway into a grassy area and down a steep embankment.”

As Daily entered the same “S” curve, he attempted to stop his cruiser but due to the steep embankment he was unable to do so, as the cruiser struck Hunt.

Hunt was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing by the KSP Critical Incident Response Team.
