
A man has been arrested in the death of his brother on Laurel River Lake, according to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife.
The incident happened on Tuesday night near the Marsh Branch Boat Ramp when 53-year-old John Peace jumped off a boat and into the water. Peace went under the boat where he was struck by the propeller. He pronounced deceased at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.
His brother, Don E. Peace, 53, of Corbin, who was operating the boat, had a strong odor of alcohol, blood shot eyes and displayed signs of impairment, according to media outlets.
Don Peace was arrested by Fish & Wildlife officers and charged with vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol and operating a boat/watercraft while intoxicated or under the influence.
He was lodged in Laurel Co. Corrections.
According to online records, Don Peace was arrested on May 1, 2022, on a DUI charge in Laurel Co. His blood alcohol level in that case was .192, according to the Herald-Leaders. He was fined $200 and sentenced to 30 days of home incarceration.
