A Leitchfield woman suffered a serous injury while trying to stop a rolling vehicle containing her young son from entering traffic on South Main Street.
The incident happened Monday evening at approximately 6:35 when a Ford Fusion parked at Rally’s began rolling toward South Main Street (due to a slight incline).
According to witnesses, the Ford, containing a child “around seven- or eight-years-old,” was parked in a spot at Rally’s as the mother was outside the vehicle. The car began rolling and jumped two curbs before entering the entrance/exit area to Leitchfield City Hall.
The mother raced to the moving car and opened the driver’s side door in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but one of her legs was severely injured in the process. Fortunately, witnesses said passing motorists saw what was happening and slowed or stopped as the Fusion, with an automatic transmission, rolled toward and onto the roadway.
The woman was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center. The child was not injured.
Along with EMS, the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene.
