An 11-year-old boy has died in an ATV accident.
Kentucky State Police said the wreck occurred Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:30 on a surface mine road in Emmalena in Knott County.
The investigation showed that an 11-year-old boy was driving the ATV “at a high rate of speed when he lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times,” according to state police.
The juvenile, who police said was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the ATV.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Trooper Branden Watts.
