The state’s first medical marijuana dispensary is slated to open in Ohio County.

Gov. Andy Beshear made the announcement in a social media post:

Great news, Kentucky – today, we approved the state’s first medical cannabis dispensary for operations in Beaver Dam. The Post Dispensary is expected to open its doors this fall. This is another step forward as we work to ensure Kentuckians with serious medical conditions have access to the medicine they need and deserve.

The Post Dispensary is located at 300 North Main Street in Beaver Dam.

Beshear announced in July that the first medical marijuana cultivator, Armory Kentucky LLC in Mayfield, a Tier III cultivator, was the first to begin operations in Kentucky.

“This administration made a commitment to Kentuckians suffering from cancer, PTSD, multiple sclerosis and other eligible conditions, and I am proud we are making progress to deliver safe, affordable access to medical cannabis,” Beshear said in July.

On April 17, 2024, the governor signed House Bill 829 into law, which sped up the timeline for medical cannabis licensing in the state by six months.

The Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis began accepting applications from prospective businesses on July 1, 2024.
