A man has been killed after shooting at a Shelby County deputy during a domestic dispute.
Kentucky State Police said the incident began at approximately 1:00 a.m. Monday when a deputy responded to a domestic disturbance on Blackwell Road in Shelbyville.
Upon arriving at the residence, the deputy encountered a male, 41-year-old Ryan McBride, of Shelbyville, and a female outside the residence.
“During the interaction, (McBride) retrieved a firearm and began firing the gun in the direction of the deputy,” state police said.
At least one round struck a piece of the deputy’s equipment, resulting in a minor injury, state police said. The deputy returned fire, striking and killing McBride.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is leading the ongoing investigation.
