A man is dead and his wife shot after a child exchange turned deadly in Elizabethtown.
The incident occurred Sunday morning at approximately 11:00 on Hayden School Road, off St. John Road and adjacent to Elizabethtown Regional Airport, during a child custody exchange.
The News-Enterprise reports that the couple, who only recently separated, was exchanging their six-year-old son, who the father had custody of over the weekend.
The father and his mother-in-law lived next door to each other on Hayden School Road. As the mother picked up the child on a side-by-side, the father began shooting at his wife, who was “grazed in the shoulder,” according to The News-Enterprise.
When police arrived, the father returned to his home and turned the gun on himself.
The child was not injured.
Police have not released the identities of those involved in the incident.
