
James Willard Ray, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at the age of 84 in Leitchfield, KY. Born on July 25, 1941, in the small town of Shrewsbury, KY, he was a son of James Washington Ray and Myrtle Priddy Ray.
James dedicated his life to hard work and devoted over 58 years of service as a Sales Associate at McCubbins Furniture, where he was known for his warm greetings and customer-friendly demeanor.
James holds a special place in the hearts of his family and friends, leaving a legacy brightly illuminated by his passions for hunting, fishing, and his favorite gospel and bluegrass music. His love for the great outdoors and the joy he found in simple pleasures were what endeared him to many.
He is survived by his loving children, Shelia Tyra, James “Jamie” Ray (Loura), and Lisa Kerr. James also leaves behind his beloved siblings, Willa Dean Tate, Aileen Stewart, and brother Tommy Ray (Lynna), who will forever remember him as the caring and dedicated brother he was. His five grandchildren-James Ray (Samantha), Adam Kerr (Kim), Shelbi Tyra (Briana), Tanner Tyra, and Spencer Ray (Taylor)-along with six great-grandchildren, including Trigger, Gunner, Ryder, Emma, Hannah, and Walker, will carry forward his memory in their hearts. He is also survived by his significant other Marilyn Quiggins.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Ray; a son, James William Ray; two cherished grandchildren, Jenna Ray Glasscock and Alex Kerr; along with siblings Roma Ray, Henry Ray, Mary Logsdon, and Dorothy Logsdon.
In remembrance of James’ life, visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Leitchfield Funeral Home. A service celebrating his life will follow at 2:00 PM that same day, honoring the remarkable man he was and the love he shared with those around him.
Following the service, James will be laid to rest at Shrewsbury Cemetery in Leitchfield, KY, where family and friends are welcome to gather to pay their final respects.
