A 20-year-old Grayson County man has been jailed after being accused of brutally attacking a 70-year-old female relative.

Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins and Kentucky State Police responded to the incident at approximately 5:55 Sunday morning when Dalton A. Russell struck the woman “several times” in addition to hitting her in the leg with a baseball bat, according to the arrest citation.

When Chaffins arrived at the scene, he found the victim “lying in the floor bleeding from the leg and other areas of her body,” the citation states.

“There was a significant amount of blood in the living room floor and kitchen which obviously came from the victim,” the citation states.

Russell also “trashed” the residence, as the kitchen area, according to the citation, was “totally destroyed.”

The victim suffered a possible broken leg and broken arm.

Within two minutes of arriving at the scene, Chaffins detained Russell so EMS, who was on standby nearby, could treat and then transport the victim to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

Russell, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assault, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault (domestic violence) and wanton abuse/neglect of an adult.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
