Junior running back Kadin Hanshaw rushed for 156 yards and five touchdowns as Grayson County defeated Edmonson County 39-15 Friday night in the 49th annual Tobacco Bowl.
The win was the Cougars’ seventh straight in the series and gave them a 25-24 advantage in the all-time rivalry.
Hanshaw scored three times in the first half, including a 10-yard run in the final minute before halftime, as Grayson County built a 19-3 lead. He added a 7-yard score late in the third quarter and sealed the game with a 61-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. The long run also pushed him past 3,000 career rushing yards.
Senior Ethan Mudd contributed a 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished with 51 yards on six carries. Quarterback Jake Bratcher was efficient in his first start, completing 6 of 7 passes for 71 yards and rushing four times for 35 yards. Kayden Tyner caught three passes for 45 yards.
Grayson County forced two turnovers in the second half. Lane Beasley recovered a fumble late in the third quarter, and Evan Hasty added another recovery early in the fourth.
Edmonson County’s points came on a 33-yard field goal by Colton White in the second quarter and short touchdown runs from Jacoia Orvis and Connor Self in the second half.
Grayson County (1-0) will continue its season on Friday night against Anderson County, while Edmonson County (0-1) will travel to Clinton County.
