A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in a shooting in the parking lot of the Mayfield High School versus Graves County High School football game on Friday night.
The Mayfield Police Department announced on Sunday that officers arrested a teenager from Fulton and charged him with first-degree assault.
The shooting took place in the fourth quarter of the rivalry game coined the “Battle of the Birds” held at War Memorial Stadium. Police said the shooting was precipitated by a “physical altercation” in the parking lot and resulted in 18-year-old Jordan Riley, of Farmington, suffering gunshot wounds to the “arm and upper torso,” Mayfield police said.
Riley was initially transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center before being airlifted to a Nashville hospital where he’s listed in stable condition.
The teenage shooter has been lodged in a juvenile detention center.
At the time of the shooting, Mayfield was winning the game 40-7, which is the final score listed on the KHSAA website.
