State Sen. Steve Meredith has been honored with the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) Award of Excellence.
A ceremony was held in the lobby of Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center on Monday to present Meredith with the award.
“KHA’s Award of Excellence is a prestigious award given to individuals who have made significant contributions to health care in Kentucky, and Senator Meredith has continually shown this commitment throughout his time in the State Senate,” KHA said in a press release.
Meredith, who was first elected to the Kentucky Senate in 2016 following his retirement after 30 years as CEO of the then-Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, “is known for his strong advocacy for healthcare, fiscal responsibility, and economic growth,” KHA said.
“Even though he didn’t intend to focus on health care as a senator, his background has shaped much of his legislative agenda,” according to KHA. “Once he arrived in Frankfort, it became obvious he needed to concentrate on healthcare and people expected it. His colleagues in the legislature respect his expertise and his resolute determination to safeguard access to quality care for the people of Kentucky.”
Meredith was also recognized for his efforts to safeguard Kentuckians’ ability to access healthcare and other health-related services.
“He has also worked tirelessly to ensure Kentucky patients continue to have access to care and services through reforms to 340B (a key drug discount program), Medicaid managed care, and pharmacy benefit management,” KHA said. “(He has fought) David and Goliath battles against big pharmaceutical manufacturers, insurance giants, and more.
“For a lifetime of service to the health and well-being of others and his exemplary support of healthcare in the commonwealth, Kentucky’s hospitals are grateful to Senator Meredith for his hard work and dedication to serving his fellow Kentuckians.”
Kentucky Hospital Association
KHA was established in 1929. The association represents hospitals, related health- care organizations, and integrated health- care systems dedicated to sustaining and improving the health status of the citizens of Kentucky. The KHA is headquartered in Louisville.
