Second person dies in wrong way crash on I-65

A second person had died after an elderly driver traveled in the wrong direction on I-65 in Warren County.

As K105 reported on Tuesday morning, the accident happened on Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:00 near the 15-mile marker of I-65, according to Kentucky State Police.

The state police investigation showed that a 1998 Cadillac Eldorado, being driven by 80-year-old Garland Johnson, of McDonough, Georgia, was traveling south in the northbound lanes when the vehicle collided with a 2017 Jaguar SUV, being driven by 36-year-old Mesa Reinier, of Hialeah, Florida.

Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Warren County Coroner’s Office.

Reinier was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Kentucky State Police said on Tuesday evening that Reinier succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday afternoon.
