Playing without two of its top offensive weapons, Grayson County fell 24–7 to McLean County on Friday night at Cougar Stadium.
The loss dropped the Cougars to 1–2 on the season, while McLean County improved to 2–1 and earned its first win in Leitchfield since 1977.
McLean’s Aden Bolden scored all four of his team’s touchdowns. The senior’s final two scores came in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Grayson County’s lone touchdown came in the third quarter when senior Ethan Mudd powered in from a yard out to cap a drive. Mudd finished with 24 yards on 10 carries, added a catch for 8 yards, and also completed a pass for 6 yards.
Quarterback Jake Bratcher went 7 of 13 for 74 yards, while Jamycen Buster led the Cougars with 54 receiving yards on two catches to go along with 27 rushing yards. Shane Hall caught three passes for 21 yards.
Grayson County was hampered offensively by the absence of star running back Kadin Hanshaw, who has rushed for more than 3,000 yards in his career, and leading receiver Kayden Tyner.
The game’s key moments came early and late. McLean capitalized on a fumble by Grayson’s Bryce Aebersold on the second play from scrimmage, setting up a short field for its opening touchdown. Later, trailing 18–7 midway through the fourth quarter, the Cougars drove to the McLean 17 and faced 4th-and-10. A pass into the end zone fell incomplete with no pass interference called, ending the comeback bid.
The Cougars will remain at home this coming week as they host Butler County.
