An eastern Kentucky man has been charged with a March murder.
On March 1, Kentucky State Police responded to a report of a deceased male lying next to Allegheny Road in Hellier, approximately 15 miles south of Pikeville.
Kentucky State Police said its investigation showed that the deceased male, 45-year-old Brent Wooten, of Elkhorn City, “received a fatal injury to his left side.” He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office.
Further investigation determined that “foul play was involved” in Wooten’s death, state police said in a press release.
As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old Brandon Blackburn, of Pikeville, was arrested on Monday morning and charged with Wooten’s murder. He was additionally charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and persistent felony offender.
Blackburn was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
