A dirt bike rider has died in an accident on an eastern Kentucky roadway.
Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the accident Sunday morning at approximately 1:15 on Hwy 1148 in Whitesburg. Upon first responders arriving at the scene, the rider, 30-year-old Jonathan Stewart, of Thornton (Letcher Co.), was found deceased.
State police said its investigation showed that “Stewart was driving an off-road dirt bike on the roadway when he lost control due to slippery conditions, causing the motorcycle to strike a guardrail.”
“It was determined that Mr. Stewart was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision,” according to state police.
Toxicology results are pending.
This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Kevin Day.
